Logan does something so simple that most kids his age struggle with immensely, showing up. He comes to training every chance he can and he not only shows up, he goes all out each time. He even had a pop warner playoff game later in the afternoon the same day of this meet but he wanted to compete still! No surprise they went on to win the game too.

These are two PRs for him at 53 in the snatch and 80 in the CJ. These are both lifts he has struggled with but he found a way to make it happen at the meet.

As an 8th grader going into frosh year next fall he will be a leader in the weightroom and lift more than many of his older teammates.

Show up! Train hard! Leave Out the Fluff!

Coaches that are coaching 11U:
Please teach them to fully squat in the lift! You’re not doing anyone any favors by allowing them to bypass this technique and power everything. Be a coach and teach them to get under the bar.

You don’t have to hit a qualifying total on your first meet! Focus on building confidence and having them demonstrate good technique in all 6 lifts!

The best thing about this is that not only did the lifter hit a new best but everyone else is engaged and right there in the battle with the lifter. Team training and having a coach in person watching your lifts is so important. You don’t get this with a “personal trainer”. I can’t say enough about it. One of the biggest reasons we have such a high level of competitive youth is because our training environment is like no other.

Feed off your teammates energy! Push each other! Compete! It’s contagious.

University of Colorado Colorado Springs basketball commit @evan_mckean learning how to snatch today. His pre-season workouts from the school require him to do some snatches and he came in to improve his technique. 👏 🏀

This was a 15min intro to snatching.

The first video is his snatch before any coaching and the last video is at 15 min.

We see in the first video a few areas to improve:
1. Hands are not wide enough
2. Bar isn’t close enough to body on second pull
3. Squat depth is limited

To improve we first drilled proper overhead squat. We used a 5 second tempo down with a focus on keeping are head up, feet wide enough to achieve proper depth, and good elbow lockout.

Then we drilled power snatch technique with emphasis on the knees tracking back and keeping the bar close.

We progress to power snatch + overhead squat. To work on transitions we did a few reps from the high hang as well.

In the end we put it all together !

A high % of colleges use some variation of the snatch and clean and jerk in their strength programs.
